sourcing bosses for old centre pull brakes

Hi, when you say centre-pull, do you mean cantilevers, as the old centre-pulls had a single fixing bolt the same as 'modern' brakes. If it is for Cantis then the bosses are the same as V-brakes which should be fairly easily available. Try your LBS for starters.0

He means centre pulls. They could be frame mounted, not all used a centre bolt. Actually they are very similar to more modern U brakes as used in BMX and '80's MTB's Few and far between nowadays. Tony Oliver used to like using them but he no longer makes frames. Maybe a long standing frame builder might help, try Longstaffs for example. Those who specialise in touring bikes would be more likely.
Maybe Ceeway could help. They supply all you ever need for frame building.
I do wonder if the braze ons are the same as any other, just in a different place.0 -
Personally I would bother unless it's for a classic restoration. They're hopelessly underpowered compared to modern dual pivit side-pulls.0

Agree with rafletcher; centrepulls suck! I had a Tony Oliver frame (recently stolen) which originally had brazed-on Mafac GT brakes. These were horribly spongy, with the levers nearly hitting the bars, and were replaced with cantis in short order. Or you could use something like Tektro 556 dual-pivots (55-73mm reach) if you need something longer than normal.
f you *really* must have brazed-on centrepulls (why?) then the Paul brakes fit onto standard canti/V-brake bosses.0 -

You might want to rethink that as this is what it says about the Racer brakes on Paul's site...It is important to note that the Braze-On Racer does not mount to brake bosses in the standard cantilever position, nor will it fit on U-Brake bosses. Framebuilders should refer to the included instructions for mounting dimensions, or email info@paulcomp.com for more information.

^ What it says on the Paul website and in the manual PDFs is confusing! I emailed them a few months ago to ask if they actually used standard canti bosees, just positioned differently. The answer from Paul himself was basically "yes, sorry about the documenttion."
The bosses required are bog standard canti bosses. Yes, they have to be positioned differently to bosses used for canti brakes, but the actual bosses are EXACTLY THE SAME. I didn't mention this as the original poster needed to add bosses anyway, and it seems obvious to me that the bosses have to be in a different place given that cantis attach below the rim, and centrepulls above the rim. :roll:0
