beware of buying from 'theboydonald'

Bikeradar member 'theboydonald' placed an On-One Scandal for sale in the classifieds section on August 24th. 'Theboydonald' and myself made an agreement over the bike on September 11th, and accordingly the payment was transferred to 'theboydonald' via Paypal on the same day. Following his promise to "souce a box tomorrow (Monday) and send it on Tuesday", I waited to receive confirmation and a tracking number.
After a few days with no further contact, and having already paid for the bike, I contacted 'theboydonald' again. I received the following reply;
"Sorry, but your bike has not been sent yet. I have twice tried to box it up and had second thoughts......I realise that a deal is a deal and I am sorry to be dicking you around like this. It will be parcelforced tomorrow am. " (tomorrow being Friday 16th)
Fair enough I thought. We're all busy people. Admittedly , I didn't really understand or enjoy the 'second thoughts' having already paid for the bike, but OK, just stop 'dicking me around' and send the bike. No further apologies necessary.
Today, Monday 19th, I contacted 'theboydonald' yet again. 6 hours later my payment was refunded with the following explanation; "look, I can't get to the bikeshop to get boxes. Best if I refund you and you can buy something else."

  • I suggest that 'best' would be actually selling something placed for sale in the classifieds. 'Best' would be honouring a payment made and forwarding the item paid for. 'Best' would be sending the item promptly, understanding that the buyer has decided not to pursue other items, favouring yours. 'Best' would be maintaining regular contact with the buyer in the case of some delay, instead of "dicking people around" from a safe distance. 'Best' in the event of withdrawing the item from sale one week AFTER payment was made, would be the courtesy of a phonecall, a text, an email with something more than a childish excuse.

    Indeed, best would be recognising that at 43 years of age, it's time to stop "dicking around" and start acting like an adult. The item in question can still be seen in the MTB section of the classifieds. 'Theboydonald' eagerly awaits your offers.

    I can understand your frustration, but at least you and your money have been reunited.

  • Oh well, as said; sorry. There was a fair bit more to not being able to get it posted than above but as you are so annoyed there is little point in doing anything other than again apologising.It was been three weeks since I posted the ad,I will remove it.Again,sorry.

    You paid, he refunded with as little fuss as possible. Ok so your'e annoyed because you didn't get your 'bargain' but being over critical wont help. YOu got your money back, stop bitching and posting ads about someone else's behaviour that to be honest was probably not to your liking but honourable.
    I like this forum (and others) because on the whole the members are honourable and trustworthy and it just works so we are all happy. Sometimes it goes less well for lots of reasons and getting a bike box, packing a bike up and arranging postage is quite a task, I know I've done it lots of times and I work from home. It's easier than if you have a 9 to 5 job and travel there and back etc.ect..

    Chill and make up, life's just too short and stop spreading bad Kharma about others when it's unwarranted

  • Dealing with people is a low-ball affair. You shouldn't really expect an honourable agreement under any circumstances. That is unless you can ensure some binding contract to do so with the other party. Anything more you get out of a sale, consider it a bonus.
    At least you received your money back.
  • as long as you got your money back I wouldnt worry about it too much.

    it'll just make you more determined to find a better deal instead... I'd never be too displeased with someone that gave me a full refund. ive had far far worse experiences with people on Ebay.
