I'm looking to buy a hybrid bike for doing a 3 mile commute (pretty much along a flat, straight cycle path) plus some very minor off road stuff at the weekend with the kids. I was originally looking to spend under 200 quid but now I've decided to spend under 300. And having spent the last 4 or 5 evenings researching I've come up with a shortlist.

Basically I'm looking for you to tell me which one you'd buy - or, which one(s) you wouldn't (and why). I'll welcome any and all comments (if none of them are any good and you have an alternative recommendation, please tell me what it is and where I can find it!) :

* Felt QX70 2011 (which I see has been discontinued?!?!) (http://www.jejamescycles.co.uk/felt-qx70-hybrid-item162908.html)
* Halcyon Monterey (http://www.discountcyclesdirect.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=333&products_id=9599)
* Corratec Sport Trekking 03 (http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=69510)
* Marin Kentfield 2009 (http://www.discountcyclesdirect.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=7487)

Thanks alot!

  • Out of that lot, I personally would go with the Felt. (But then I have a Felt MTB so could be biased.) It is actually a £400 bike if you look elsewhere.
    The Discount Cycles website would put me off buying from them - looks like they only stock BSOs).
    The Corratec looks ugly (but as a MTB rider, anything that looks like a tourer/road bike looks ugly to me :lol: )
    2007 Felt Q720 (the ratbike)
    2012 Cube Ltd SL (the hardtail XC 26er)
    2014 Lapierre Zesty TR 329 (the full-sus 29er)
  • Definitely the Felt.

    I bought the QX85D model a few weeks back for winter commuting and trail riding and it's a great bike. Not sure what level of gear the QX70 comes with, but the 85 is deore throughout.
