Comments

  • So you are going to change the things just because you have not had experience with them, and you havn't even received the bike and are deciding that? Sounds a waste if you ask me, especially as the elixir 7s are quite good brakes, and the X7/X9 combo for shifters is very decent. I love SRAM personally...

i dont like avid brakes so will give them a few weeks to change my mind
    will stick with the gears.

the main changes i think is the chainset and cockpit to suit me
    carbon wheels next year hopefully

    nice!

avid brakes are unreliable but great when they work. i'm saying this from experiance. if i knew mine were gonna be like they are, then i would have gone with shimano or formula in the first place

Unreliable how? Had my Elixir R's on my Stumpy for 2 years and only had to bleed them when I shortened the cable, never failed on me and are spot on in terms of spotting power.

Then I have Elixir 3's on my Whyte and once again spot on so far.

my lever went very spongy for a few weeks. i couldn't be ar$ed to blled it then it went back to normal again :?

piston got stuck so was a bit of a pain to get it to work again, the right hand lever is very loose so if you don't have your finger on it it comes out the lever basically(theres no firction to stop it). same thing happened to both my mate's levers.

also i bent 3 levers with crahses that weren't that bad. it's £20 each for a new lever.

obviously different people have different experiances but i don't like mine overall. great power and not too expensive but flawed in a few ways, imo

    Happy newbike day!
i found the first thing i noticed about riding a carbon bike was the noise change, it always sounded hollow (i know it is but you dont normally hear it with ally)

The Superfly is a lovely bike, and if you get carbon wheels make sure you dont go out in the wind you'll fly away!
Out of interest, are you looking at the On-one wheels, easton or CB wheels?

  • I have to admit that I have a Superfly 2012, the same bike.

    I changed it a bit
    1. X9 shifters
    2. Bontrager Race handlebar, Carbon (narrower)
    3. Bontrager XXX lite Stem

The bike is fantastic except the rear brakes, they worked fine until this spring, they started to brake down and I have taken them to a bike shop three times.

And I´m considering to upgrade from Elixir 7 ! ! Cant stand this anymore !

I´m also considering to upgrade the gears to complete XO, and make the tripple to dual in the front ( XO)

This is the bike now: Rear X9, front X7, crank: sram S1000 (tripple)
The bike will be: complete XO, including XO crank (dual)

Does anyone have a clue how much weight I will save ?

Where can I buy a complete XO group (over the internet) My local dealer is very small ?

Try Bike-discount.de (german) I believe they sell XO groupsets

You won't save much weight changing groupset, although the X.0 cassette is light (lighter than XTR in fact, but also more expensive).

Rear is about 30g, front about 20g, cranks about 50g, so about 100g.
Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.
  • Nice bike and that workshop looks nice n cosy :)
