Hello.
Im trying to service my shimano m778 15mm threw axle front hub. Iv removed the axel and bearings from there cages but due to the red cap shown below and a built in seal on the other side i cant remove the cages to clean the race behind it leaving grit and old grease trapped in there. Does any one know a way to get into it properly so i can clean it properly.

You just have to clean from there. Ear bud or something?I don't do smileys.

What a bad design. So much for Shimano hubs being easy to service. Will give the ear bud thing a go. Thanks0

I did mine by using a toothbrush and white spirits.
Clean it all out moving the cage round as you go,then wash through and dry it all out, ear bud comes in handy here. Then re-grease as you fit the new balls, good as new.0 -
Thanks guys. Ear bud was a good call. its not perfect but its better than it was.
Thanks again.0 -
Use some evaporating degreaser in a spray tin to 'blast' it out. That's what I do.2009 Giant Trance X5
