Affordable GPS unit

I use my phone to track bike rides I've been on but generally the GPS cuts out part way through and so I don't get a proper record. Can someone recommend a decent and cheap simple cycling computer with gps built in? Simply for tracking purposes. Even models a few years old that are available on ebay etc would suit me fine.

Thanks,
Ed

I got a Garmin 705 for less than 3 figures... A few people sell them cheap as they are upgrading. One thing to be aware of is there is a known design issue (in my eyes) with the garmins where the battery or usb connector may be flaky - but there is a fix for this on the internet. So try before you buy :D

    I got mine off gumtree...

Does it have to be a cycling computer? I use an ordinary GPS like this:

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Garmin-eTrex- ... 499wt_1153

which lets me upload and download routes and gives simple navigation. You also need a mounting bracket which costs around £8.

I'd go for a newly overhauled (by Garmin) Edge 205. Buying Garmin's that are old and out of warranty just isn't worth it as Garmin have a flat fee for replacement (with a NoH unit) when things go wrong which is over £100 for most models now.
    More problems but still living....
  • Yeah it can be a normal gps unit. I generally ride with a bag anyway so I can carry some stuff if required.
