What advantage do bib shorts have over conventional cycling shorts?

Just curious?

thanks

The shoulder straps keep them nicely tensioned and pulled up properly whatever position you are in, and you avoid having a seam or tie thing (or whatever they have?) at the waist.

They are just far superior in every way.

P.S. I would say that bib shorts ARE conventional cycling shorts, it's the non-bibs that are unconventional, at least amongst serious road cyclists.
  • I see, thanks!

Also means if your jersey rides up whilst cycling you don't get an exposed back/stomach, this is particularly advantagious, at least in my opinion, when riding in colder weather as it helps keep you a bit warmer, particularly with thermal bib shorts/tights.
  • With bibs you can pretend that you are an old school wrestler in front of the bedroom mirror when alone. Ker-ching!
  • I have to say, I don't find them particularly amazing. They keep your belly a bit warmer and your back is always covered, even if your jersey gets pulled up, but they are a PITA to go for a wee in. I have shorts and bibs, I use whatever comes out of the wardrobe 1st...

    Benefits

1.much more comfy around the waist (dont dig in)
    2. flatten stomach for a smoother silhouette apparently
    3. crotch does not have tendency to sag/move pad away and down - referred to by a mate as the 'sh*t bag' effect
4.warmer apparently...I am always burning up so

    Disadvantages

    1. more of a hassle when you decide to go to loo (need to lose shirt as well)
    2. shoulder straps can dig/run slightly when standing
    3. the horror of what you look like in the mirror

I think there is a good reason that there is not a "Boys in lycra bib shorts" thread

whilst on this thread I can recommend these

    http://www.mandmdirect.com/ProductDetails.aspx?PC=AD8244&lid=FR1

as a cheap way to try out some decent quality bib shorts. 36" only at the mo though so big boys only.
