Breaking Saddles
Has anyone else experienced problems with breaking Specialized Romin saddles?
This is the second one I've owned that's broken in exactly the same place.
The first was second-hand & 18 months old, so I couldn't get it exchanged. This one is only about 4 months old, so will be covered by guarantee.
I'm asking because I'm not sure whether to get an exchange or a refund. Like many others I've tried loads of saddles and was happy to have found one that suits my backside. No good though if they're commonly prone to breaking.
The saddle is mounted level, within the markings, on an S-Works seatpost. Before someone pipes up for me to lose weight, I'm a little under 70kgs, so not particularly lardy. Both failures happened during road races on the not so smooth Surrey roads.
Now where did I put that receipt?.......

Have seen a few Specialized saddles break that way. Comfy saddles but terrible quality control / build quality.0

In fairness, seeing a saddle built like that in a shop, wouldn't you think it would break in exactly that way?
I don't think it's a defect product, I think they are badly designed... you can get a replacement that will break in exactly the same way... my advice is to change productleft the forum March 20230 -
+1 - totally agree! Would be interesting to hear from other Romin riders ....0

Planet X have Selle Italia SLR 135g jobs on at £40 odd at the moment down from £100 - used them for years and never had any problems, also lovely and comfy. Look good as well.0

Stuff like that is designed to be lightweight. By obsessing over weight the durability is reduced.0

A tailor might ask you which way you dressed . Do you sit to one side ? I do even though I keep shifting back so I'm central within a couple of miles I've slipped to the right (I think). Could be you are putting more pressure on one side.
Not that that is a reason for it to break.0 -
I've broken 4 Selle Itaila saddles over about 5 years.
Keep sending them back and they keep sending me new ones.
I'm heavier (90kg), but they keep saying they shouldn't break.0 -
So it's happened again. This time to the Selle Italia SLC on my training bike :-( The break is in a similar place to the Romin failures. The saddle is a couple of years old, so I doubt there would be any come back from the manufacturer, even if I could find the receipt.
I guess it must be something about the way I ride or fit the saddles?0 -

Agree completely: I have them on my good bike (brand new Planet X carbon railed sourced one) and on my fast trainer (older ti railed one that I took off the good bike to replace with the P/X one).
Older one has probably done 10,000 plus miles - still in perfect condition save for wall induced scratches.
Very comfy, very light, very recommended.0 -
Got one of these and is about 10 months and 12,000 Km's old. Has a loose rail but not cracked yet. I am about 73Kg.0
