Hi

I am looking at getting a new bike and have come across the Felt Z6 or the Focus Cayo 105 both on Wiggle for less than a grand with similar specs. Just wondering if anyone could recommend either as not really got much knowledge of them. Would be using it mainly for triathlon and general road riding.
Thanks

    Felt

owned one for 2 years now - really good build quality, get one with Campag if you can

  • How do you find the ride position on the Felt? I have read in a few places that it is too aggressive? Also how did the sizing match other bikes? I am normally a 58 (just over 6ft) but have read conflicting reports on Felt sizing?
    Cheers
  • z series is far from aggressive, sportive bike. Felt only do one build with campag and thats new for 2012.

Have you seen the Giant TCR Compostie1 on the wiggle site? This looks a good buy with 105.

Saw the new Cayo range at NEC and they look great.

Apprently there moving away from mail order [not sure if all together or just spreading their best] but Sigma Sports now stock. Got messured which gave me more comfort than trying to do it myself and getting wrong.

The new gret / blue colours on the 2012 3.0 I think looks awsome and will be the one Ive ordered.

I think it looks far better than the Felt and reviews on Wiggle are very good.

    For my 2 pennies worth....

I bought a Felt F3 in March (2010 model in white) and I'm blown away by it. Moved from a Bianchi and it's a joy to ride.
  • Can't comment on the Focus bikes but can definately give a big thumbs up for Felt bikes. I bought the bottom of the range Felt F95 in April and have been hugely impressed. Mine even came with the much criticised Microshift shifters, yet they haven't missed a beat.

I read somewhere that Felt bikes (especially F series) encourage you to ride fast and its true. I love it!!

Edinburgh Bicycle are also now Focus stockists. :) A good move from them to go to bricks and mortar retail. I bought my Cayo Expert Ultegra 13 months ago and am very happy with it. Felt was another brand I considered but I went with the Focus based on reviews. It's a very firm ride but I soon got used to it. Personally, I'd recommend gel bar tape (I've just put a layer over the top of the existing tape for more comfortable long rides) and good gel mitts (I have Endura FS260 Aerogels). But that firmness translates into great acceleration and power transfer. I was fortunate to get the FSA carbon crankset (historically the supplied crankset can vary) and I sense no flex from it.

The frame is more race than sportive-designed but don't let that put you off if you lean more to the latter type of riding. The only other change I made since last year is replacing the Prolog Pro saddle for a Specialized Romin Gel. It's actually firmer but more comfortable, especially on longer rides. The Prologo felt just a little narrow and unforgiving after 30-40 miles, but then saddles are particularity a personal item choice.

Summing up, I can't recommend not buying a Felt but I can gives a thumbs up to Focus. Value for money and quality, even if prices have risen for what you get since last year.
