and bloody loved it!. I wasn't overwhelmed by riding in a group and didnt take anyone out.
Covered 51 km had a nice cafe stop.

Being swept along in the collective mass of the peloton :D awesome.

Can't wait to get out next week, apparently it's a hillier route so I hope I dont embaress myself

  • Nice one. Glad you enjoyed your first club run.

I have been thinking about it myself but after going out with a club rider last week, watching him amble up the only proper climb we did while I struggled all the way up and then nearly killed myself trying to keep up with him on the way home (and he seemed to be free wheeling most of the way) has put me off.

I will wait until next year when hopefully I am a bit stronger and fitter.

Out of interest what sort of average speed did you do on your run?

Don't forget, many clubs have two, three or even four different paced runs, so even if you can't keep up on the fast run, there should be one that suits. Contact your local clubs to find out. You can't beat riding with a club motivation, being pushed a bit and getting tips from experienced club riders.

I put off doing a club run foe years - big mistake. I am off the bike with a long term injury and really miss the club run.

You really have to focus on the worse case scenario ????? - you might not keep up and get dropped .....and you cycle home alone ?? .................so what ? - if your used to cycling alone anyway your no worse off
  • I am having to miss our club run today , pregnant wife is feeling sick and a 4 year old to look after as well. :(

  • Sorry to have hijacked the thread but the original post has definately made me think about joining a club.
I was out this morning for a (lonely) 20 miler and there were loads out and they all seemed to be heading towards the local meeting place for rides, Eureka Cafe.

I almost followed them there but I had promised my missus I would not be long. I will definately go for it at some point or other.

Trigg? which club did you go out with? I recently moved back to Cheltenham and have been looking at a few of the club sites with a mind to giving one a go...
  • ^ I was going to ask which club myself. Am over in Gloucester. Mainly been doing solo 15-20 milers to date.

I went with Cheltenham & County Cycle Club, I used their email contact from the website and one of there guys said it was fine to turn up and try it out before I join. I have been thinking about it since the begining of the year but never got round to it, plucked up the courage and it was great. Only normally ride to work so I was looking for something a bit different.

I felt a bit like the new boy with everyone on saturday morning knowing each other, but when we stopped at the cafe I just plonked myself in the middle of the group and got chatting to a few people and they seemed fine. The run back to Cheltenham felt quicker and I kept up ok. This saturday is a bit hillier but I cannot wait.

Drop me a PM if you want to know anymore or let me know if you are going to turn up on saturday and I'll look out for you.
