To celebrate my 46th wedding anniversary I am going to attempt my very first mountain climb - Alpe d'Huez at the age of 65. This will be during my husband's solo 3741 kms challenge cycling the 2011 Tour de France route for charity. He is convinced that I will be able to complete the climb, so why not?

He has spent the last 18 months working on this challenge and with the many hours training and sitting at the computer drumming up support, I am determined to do my bit.

Please consider donating to the charities being supported, particularly The Prostate Cancer Charity which is helping to make awareness of the most common form of cancer in men. Just visit his website - every little helps.

Me - if I succeed it will prove that my hip replacement works!

  • Much kudos to you and Robin. I shall be 'watching' your attempt on Oct 2 with interest... I too would like, one day in the not too distant future, to ride that climb. So if you can, I, at the tender age of 54 next year, should also be able!

You'll be fine. Just don't start the sprint too early.

    Best climb in cycling.
