giant defy 3 or gt gtr series 5?

For a first road bike can't decide between defy 3 or gt series 5, both look good but I don't really know about them. Any advice appreciated. Cheers :-)

Whats your budget?

Budget is as low as poss really, with sales on at mo I was hoping as much below £500 as I can. I've seen gt on offer £459 and defy under £500.

Looking at the two your looking at, the Defy 3 is the better spec'd bike. If you shop around, and push your budget a little (and only a little) higher you could go for the Defy 2. I've seen it from £525 online even though I paid nearer to £600 for mine.

Thanks will take a look around, think I may struggle as hoping to find it in size m/l but if I can find defy 2 at that price it would be good

I know a couple of days ago Cycle Surgery in London & wheelies online had the Defy 2 M/L in stock sub £550

Looked at a Giant Defy 2 from these people at £499.99, only got a couple of sizes left though so no good for me.
