Rear mech shifting

Since taking my windows my XT shifters I can not get the indexing right.
I have set the H / L properly.
I have got highest gear to the next cog perfect.
Can not get into the largest rear cog. tried the barrel adjuster - worked. Then can not get into the smallest cog and vice versa.
help

In that case you haven't set the limit screws properly. Or your initial cable tension is wrong.I don't do smileys.

I set my rear mech up using a guide from a mag and it didn't do the job. I then used the Park Tools website, followed it step by step and got my gears shifting nicely
. Moral - there are different ways to setup gears and some work better than others.
