Hi there.
i'm about to leave for japan to study out in a place called Kanazawa for the year. I've been told that there are some really great roads that lead off into mountains or along coastlines and so have been looking for a bike out there (as shipping mine would cost more than my current bike is worth.

i found this bike on rakuten, the japanese amazon, and was wondering if anyone could shed light on whether the components are ok or really cheap and shoddy. it's marked down from £370 to £212, i think because they've brought out a new model. but will it just fall to pieces or feel terrible when i ride, especially with it being a folding model.

Any advice would be great

for just cruzing around might be ok

no heroics or jumps on a bike that folds, that is dangerous, but do you really need a folding bike

the were single speed 1's that were the same price, better handling, and if you have a heavy bag on your back its less likely to snap going over a speed bump

    what about second hand........

15kg - I've ridden DH mtb that weigh less

Great idea but a standard folder is probably as good, if not better or just get a proper road bike.

  • i didn't want to get a single speed as i'm probably going to be doing a good amount of hills. I was a bit worried about the possibility of snapping.
I'm not out there yet so was going to look for 2nd hand possibilities when i arrive, and/or talk to any local cycling shops i can find to see what they may be able to do.
the trouble is folding might be fairly useful due to the prevalance of train travel out there and how full the trains often are.
I guess i'll need to see what the train operators out there are like as i haven't been to this region before.
    thanks for your thoughts though.
