I bought this light from Bike Ray http://www.bikeray.co.uk/bikeray-ray-iii-1280-lumen-bike-light-set.php?it=240&ca=60&p=1&so=0 Arrived by courier within two days. It looks really good, well packaged and is bright. I'm taking it out this evening for its first ride. I'll let you know how it goes if anyone is interested.
Whoop!
Many happy trails!

Well, it works very well. I am very happy with it and look forward to many night rides in the future.
The beam is pretty wide but with plenty down the centre. I found I didn't really need to slow down much at all, if any. It's bright and lights up the forest superbly. The bar mount is solid and was totally fine for the trails I rode on Thursday.
I tried the helmet mount but it's a bit too cumbersome. The strap needs to pass through the helmet and the methods I tried didn't work. I'll have another look but it isn't the best attachment. Well see later.
All in all it is a very good light and so far I'll recommend it to anyone.
    Many happy trails!
  • I prefer a helmet mount so you can direct the beam round the corner you are about to negotiate etc.

I know the cable to the lamp is a bit of a hassle with a helmet - you can feel it pull and that can change the angle of the lamp - annoying. I found the best solution was to use a cable tie to attach the cable to the helmet. On mine, there is a short cable from the lamp and I cable-tie the plug-end part to the helmet. The extension wire then plugs into that and the battery sits in my camel back. Just have to pull the cable to unplug from the helmet and then plug the extension cable end into the charger with the battery still in the camel back.

For me, this is the easiest daily commute solution. You don't want a battery pack on your helmet, but you do want to be able to direct the beam.

Thanks Guy, although my issue is with the velcro for the helmet mount. It's bulky and adds preasure inside the helmet. I'm sure I'll find a solution as I agree it's better to be able to direct the beam.
    Many happy trails!
  • Even if it's a question of the velcro strap, cable ties have got to be the answer.

I love having a decent light. Open up so many possibilities. I've got a 31k nighttime marked-out tour coming up on Friday evening.....

Well I have loads of cable ties so I'll look at that option for sure. Thanks.
Have fun on Friday when I'll be on route to Wales for 9 days of chillin with some riding thrown in the mix. I can't wait!
    Many happy trails!
