having some trouble picking what im in need of. im by no means a pro rider, but i do enjoy a good thrash round local trails (cannock, wakerly, sherwood)

i have 4 choices so far:

maxxis swampthings:
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... delID=4616

maxxis minion:
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... delID=4620

Tioga Factory DH:
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... odelID=402

Continental Baron 26 x 2.3" Folding Tyre
http://www.ukbikestore.co.uk/product/64 ... -tyre.html

obv budget doesnt want to be over the top, which is whats moving me towards the Factory DH. i just want something that can handle muddle trails, and not slip.

thanks in advance

Swampthings are a pretty extreme conditions tyre. They will make the bike roll as though it weighed a ton!
Not reccomended unless they're really needed.

i've heard that about the swamps, very heavy duty tyre. im running captains atm (came on my specialized) and they are a great tyre, but when its wet and boggy, your out on your arse

I run a minion back and front all year round on my AM machine changing the front from a 60A to a super tacky in the winter.

Tioga Factories are pretty rotten. Minion's a good tyre but an allrounder rather than a winter tyre, not brilliant at mud but not bad at it either. Depends what you want it to do.

Swampies are good tyres but yep, you don't want them fitted unless absolutely neccesary, it's like having the brakes on.

Bontrager's Mud X is a great rear mud tyre, don't like it on the front though.

I have run HIgh Rollers front and back for the last couple of years. They are not the best at anything, but work well at everything. I'm about to swap my new AM onto a pair as I'm not convinced about the Fat Albert / Nobby Nic combination in slime.

Define 'trails'. Trail centres? If so, which one?

Maxxis Ignitors are amazing at Nant y Arian but nearly killed me at Coed y Brenin, for example.

    Panaracer Fire XC/Nobby Nic/High Rollers

All great for XC and trail centres.

Nobby Nic are great when fairly dry. I've not ridden mine much in the wet so far, but from the couple of rides in the wet I'm expecting to switch over to High Rollers for the winter. 2.35 both ends as I'm not sure I can put a 2.5 on the front of a 32 mm Fox Talas?

Likewise, Mountain king 2s are awesome at Coed y Brenin in the wet, but have all the traction of a hovercraft on rollerskates on ice in Llandegla when it's damp.

Actually, can I turn my last comment into a question. Could I put a 2.5" HR on a 150 mm 32 mm Talas fork? I don't think it would be any larger than the 2.4" Fat Albert on there now.

have heard good things of the Panaracer Fire XC, but only the folding, not the standard XC. sounds like it's horses for courses in terms of what people use?

A 2.5" high roller is an incredibly heavy DH tyre, I wouldn't reccomend it for normal trail riding.

I think the maxxi ignitor is a under rated tyre , used them front an rear on my old ht, then replaced my kenda nevegal's with them again on my trance, currently got a minion on the back, which dont really suit cannock.
I'd get another ignitor ( old one pretty worn ) to swap for cannock in the future.still got one on the front.

Just looked at the weight of a 2.5" HR. Perhaps not!
