Which winter frame

Hi I'm after suggestions for winter frames. At the moment when the weather is bad or I've got a load to carry I use a specialized sirrus (with drops), but I'm finding the riding position very upright in comparison to my Cube Agree. Idealy I'd like something with a similar riding position and as light as possible :-) I'm after room for full mudguards and rack mountings. Not bothered by being limited to 23mm tyres only and the brakes I have are long drop calipers (shimano br450) but I don't mind if I have to buy a short drop set.

Googling has brought up the following:-

Dolan Preffisio
Kenisis racelight TK2 and T2
Ribble Audax/Winter trainer
Tifosi CK7

Idealy no more than £350 for frame and fork, but I'm open to ALL options, the missus might take some convincing though....

Get on ebay and pick up an old steel bad boy for the winter. Yes heavy as sh*t, but you dont get blown all over the road as much and you'll look cool (which is vital of course).

Picked up a Bob Jackson in my LBS for £200 the other week and its a pleasure to ride in these current conditions.

Picked up an immaculate Kinesis Racelight T2 with full Campag Veloce compact groupset & Fulcrum 5 wheels equipped with full mudguards (all as new) for £460 on eBay a few months back now.

Owner having to retire due to ill-health. He chucked in a new pair of Michelin PR3s and new Vittoria Corsas + as new Assos Fugu Jacket & as new Assos Winter bibtights for an extra £140 - I'm all set for winter!!

Kinesis, try and get a bargain like the above poster. You can't go wrong.

Kinesis don't always fetch great prices on eBay - mine went to auction rather than BIN price

Not the same Kinesis model and not sure of your sizing needs but here's an example

Just to let you know, the Preffisio and the Ribble are identical. Although the Preffisio looks nicer. If you decide on either of those two, just get the cheapest.
  • Genesis Equilibrium or Aether. Both take full guards. The former has had some great reviews. Not easy to pick up second hand but if you're going to buy a bike from new you might get a deal on a 2010 frame and fork.
  • Kinesis. My mate's is a superb winter bike.

I have the Tk (now renamed the Tk2 with a different paint job) as an all year round bike and it's splendid. 25mm tyres, full guards, BR450 brakes and the rest is 105. Don't think I could've got a lighter, racier all-weather bike for the money. You certaily wouldn't find it too upright either.
  • Just boughf the Dolan Preffisio, factory seems to be selling them off cheap on ebay - £210 including delivery for the frameset (frame, seatpost, carbon/alloy fork and headset). Will post some pics of it when its done and of the bike its replacing.
