Quick question about removing hydraulic disc brakes.
My front brake hose is routed through a hose guide in the fork which is enclosed therefore i can't just remove lever and caliper as one. If i take the hose out of either the caliper or lever will all the fluid come out?! stupid question I know but I dont want to just yank it out and get fluid all over the place! if it will is there anyway of stopping it without spending a fortune on specialist equipment.
They are Magura Julie brakes from 2007 if that will make a difference.

take a pic and post it up so we can get a better look at where the hose goes through the guide :D

and knowing what forks they are would help aswell :D
  • They are Magura Vidar forks from 2007 as well.
As i'm at work at the moment I cant get a picture right away. Its basically a circular hole protruding at a right angle from the fork that the hose has been passed through. It is similar to the hole on the IS mount for the caliper at the bottom of the fork if that helps! it looks like it is welded on to the fork so cant be removed. So the hose cant be taken off without removing it from either the lever or the caliper.

Does it not bolt on? It looks like it does in the manual.

  • When i had a look at it this weekend it didnt look like it was bolted, looks welded on to the fork stanchion.

To answer your original question, no the brakes won't p1ss oil everywhere, unless of course you squeeze the lever by accident. More likely though you will damage the compression olive trying to get it off the hose.

Maybe someone stripped the thread and used metal type glue. It should be a bolt.

  • Thanks for all the answers i'll give it a go and hopefully if i'm careful should be ok! :D
Annoying if that is what someone has done, would have made the job a lot easier if it was a bolt on guide!

Whatever you do don't put it back through the guide if it's welded on. A small zip tie through the guide and round the hose would be better.

  • That was what I was thinking. I am swapping them for a set of Avid Elixir R's so planned to just use zip ties instead of fiddling on with the guide!
