Bib shorts - questions on fitting

I've just taken delivery of my first pair of bibs. How tight should they be around the crotch? I'm not sure if they're too tight or I'm just having trouble adjusting!

Obviously, I'm used to no crotch pressure at all having used "normal" shorts until now.

If you're giving yourself a wedgie when you put the straps on, they're too tight. Otherwise they should be snug but not constricting. They should definitely not be loose. Unless you ride a MTB. They do things very strangely over there ;)

  • My bibs are tight when standing, fine when sitting in the saddle though.

    What he said
  • As @Wrath Rob said the bib shorts should not restrict the blood flow to your limbs and turn them blue, but should have some element of tightness at the same time - there's nothing worse than shorts that are too loose as this creates chaffing :S The fit around crotch should be the no different than normal shorts, the only thing to watch out for is shoulder straps that seem too restrictive as this probably means you need a size up.

I love wearing bibs for the extra comfort, the only problem is I feel like a WWE wrestler when I put them on :(

Ok, well that seems ok then. No blood flow problems!

    - the only problem is I feel like a WWE wrestler when I put them on -

The first time a housemate saw me in bibs he declared it "Vader Time."

3rd for the fit "on bike" being shorter than standing - the OP needs to hop on his bike & if the bibs are in any way less comfortable than his usual shorts (unless they were uncomfortable) then they're wrong.

They are slightly strange at first, however you will grow to love them.

    problem!?
  • My Mrs couldn't stop laughing when I first wore a pair of bib shorts, in fact I think the word would be hysterical! I wouldn't ride in anything else now though, even though she still cracks up at the sight of me. She reckons they show "everything", I was just pleased she thought I had something to show.

    That's the one.
  • My missus calls mine 'the babygro'. Any protestations that they're about comfort are met with laughter and comments about nappy rash.

They're comfy enough that I'll put up with the mockery...
