How hard was that!!!!

Sun was out and the wind was blowing today.....boy was it blowing!

Thought I would be smart and plan a route outbound into the headwind - south west. Didn't wasnt to go NE and think how great I was doing, only to turn and head home and find that I was cooked!

Left home in Congleton, Cheshire and took a country lane route all the way to Market Drayton. 52 miles outbound which was an absolute slogg into that headwind. Average speed just 14.9mph. All the way out my mind was just thinking about how quick I would get home with that tailwind!!! Large cappucino and a slice of carrot cake in Market Drayton to fuel the trip back.

Took a more direct route home and absolutely flew, averaged 26.5mph!! Woo hoo!

Having said that, for a flat ride that has to be the hardest ride I have done in a long time (did 260miles last week).....

PP

Edited to add that I only saw one other roadie all day.....! What doesn't kill you makes you stronger....!

Good effort. Takes a strong mind to kit up and go out in that.

    Well done.

I was free-wheeling into a headwind on a slight downhill gradient the other day and made 7mph without pedaling. Didn't take me long to turn around and go home.
