Track pump, bike workstand and a load of workshop tools.
And before long you'll be wanting a Garmin Edge 800
And a tubo trainer for when the weather turns beastly.0 -
Worst "I spend loads of money" thread ever
It is bloody addictive though, as most on here will tell you. I just bought my bike and spent a few hundred on things. After payday, its the winter gear that is the next purchase.
After winter, new groupset and wheels lol
Didnt see a cycle computer of any kind in the list. Worthwhile purchase, as its a handy indicator of what your doing/progress being made.
Main thing though, get out and enjoy it! I woke up after sleeping off a nightshift, it was raining, windy and miserable. Out on the bike, and loved every minute of it!!0 -
Thanks for the ideas guys
I started with 20 mile rides every other day.
I've done a couple of 40 mile rides in the last 2 weeks, and I just love cycling.
Nice being down here in Devon as not too much agro from other road users.
Only had one moped shout "use the f***ing cycle path", just as the path came to an end, so I'm doing alright on the abuse front.

A lot of what is on your list is also on mine but unfortunately my Boardman Comp didn't leave me with any spare cash.
So this week it is pedals. Next week road shoes. Week after clothes etc etc
If I got it all in one go the only person going up the road would be my missus :PCube Agree GTC Pro

My initial spending spree took up too much cycling time, so now having purchased all the essentials I am avoiding looking on Wiggle, Ribble, CRC, etc and just getting on with riding the bike. The more I look the more I want, especially things I don't really need but like the look of.
My first buys were pedals, shoes and some clothes which my daughter and wife are embarrassed to see me wearing. A small seat bag, a pump, spare tube, multi-tool, repair kit, tyre levers quickly followed. But I found myself looking at upgrade wheels, fancy saddles, etc, but decided I can do without them. I don't need the Garmin because I know all the roads where I live, plus I often enjoy just seeing where my ride takes me. I monitor my times and distances on the pc.
Can't get my head around arm warmers, I just use a long sleeve base layer under a jersey and man up to the coldRidley Orion0 -
Thats the biggest thing when you start cycling, you never really realise all the extra bits and pieces that you 'need'.
All good fun though.0 -

I just logged in, read this thread and thought, "Hmmm, I could do with a new wool base layer". One Wiggle trip later...
Where will it all end? :roll:Purveyor of "up"0 -

I don't think it ever does.
Every time I talk to my mate, who has been riding for years, I come away with another list of 'must have' items. I have started working overtime again (something I said I would never do) to pay for it all.
I don't know what I enjoy the most, the actual ride or going through on-line catalogues wondering what I can buy next  .Cube Agree GTC Pro

No, no, no - they are for woosies! It's either warm enough for a short sleeves, or cold enough for long sleeves, I see cyclists out early mornings lately dressed for the Antarctic, just need to pedal a bit harder to keep warmRidley Orion0 -

Well the forecast for Friday was 3C rising to 15C during the day - I never know what to commute in for those conditions but arm & leg warmers do give you the flexibility you sometimes need.ROAD < Scott Foil HMX Di2, Volagi Liscio Di2, Jamis Renegade Elite Di2, Cube Reaction Race > ROUGH0 -
Dammit !!! the missus (not page 3 standard sadly, but still very nice) spotted the latest Wiggle arrival today. Just a new Selle Italia seat, but still got a disapproving look.
It's gonna cost me a ladies watch to keep the peace.
My road biking formula so far:
£500 (Road Bike) + £800 (Extras - Still surprised at how it's all added up) + £200 (Girlfriend passifiers) = £1500.
Maybe should have gone for a Focus Cayo Ultegra and rode around in old shorts/t-shirt. :roll:0 -

I added up just what i was wearing for 1 ride once. it came to an under estimated £620. without the bike. the girl next to me was in full head to tow Rapha. Didn't have any idea of the cost. she was sponsored.

Yes, you haven't bought the wife anything... which you will need to do as you mutter under your breath about your 2012 budget and the fact that you now want to do time trialling and also a new pair of climbing wheels 8)
I found its easier to deliver the present and do the watch the left hand whilst the right hand hovers over the order button trick when you've nearly finished a bottle of wine together :P0 -

Out of interest what does '"platinum" status entitle you to? A bigger back of haribos?
You can also get a £5 voucher by signing up for their news letter and then changing your preferences. Keep changing your preferences whenever you need a £5 voucher.
Merlincycles do something similar but you don't need to spend anything, just sign up to get 10% off lots of stuff.FCN3: Titanium Qoroz.0 -
And recently Wiggle had boosted the 12% to 17% for a limited time only.
I think the 17% applies to the list price and not any discounted prices, but still I find them very competitive, have a great range of products and I buy largely based on reading the reviews from other users - very helpful and saves too many expensive errors.
Right, off to research chain cleaning and lubrication products - Must find the strength to stay away form that Park Tool chain cleaner.....0
