did the london to southampton ride yesterday - bike was checked throughly the night before tyres checked for any cuts and pressures checked. everything laid out ready to go.

Morning comes had to detour on the ride there due to a serious police incident enroute. so did a nice 15mile ride to the starting point, then set off on the ride. was in a pretty slow group so set off for a faster group. found myself in a group of 3 doing a comfortable 19-20mph through the south of london. everything was going well. was going good up the hills if a lil slower than i wanted. Found myself come up behind a group of 8.... sat with them and saw them split all of a sudden. seeing a squirrel pop out and go under the front tyre. carried on thinking everything was fine. mile of 2 later started to hear a hissing sound. pulled over checked the tyre put a new tube in and was off again up another hill got to the top and had a lovely descent.

30minutes later another flat...

at around the 60mile mark i had another... found a nice piece of glass in the rubber, didnt have any more tubes after that. called to be picked up and went home a bit gutted but i was happy with my performance and fitness.

Today I repaired all 3 punctured tubes.... checked the tyre over and everything looked fine, could see i tiny split from the glass and that was it. scrubbed all the grit and grime off the tyre as well. remounted the tyre.... i was lucky i didnt have anymore tubesm the slit from the glass was a hole when inflated, and there was a gash about a 1cm long and 1-2mm wide, you can see the innertube through the cuts, wouldn't of been fun if it went on a descent

bit gutted I need a new tyre for the front, as there is just under 100miles on the conti GP4000s tyres

I always carry two extra things in my bag:
An old piece of tyre cut down to form a useful "boot strap" (for big cuts when needed) and a packet of Park sticky patches for when the tubes run out.

The one thing I cannot work out, was the squirrel drinking out of a glass at the time you ran him/her over???? :?

Bad news about the tyre. They really are lovely the GP4000s's but they do suffer from cutting up. I had to write one off when extracting a glass shard left the tyre in a dangerous condition. Still bought another tyre of the same type though because they always make me smile when riding.
