Hey All,

4 months ago I got me some of them wheels made by a bloke called stan and now my rear rocket ron is pretty much a slick I have decided to try this tubeless lark. I have got through three rons in the past 16 months and I do love them, But at tubeless prices they are expensive for a short lasting tyre..

So I am considering alternatives, I like the look of the spec captain s works for £23.. Any reviews or any other suggestions?

Thanks in advance

I have been running tubeless tyres for about 3 years. I tend to roll on tyres with more tread than the RRs. I prefer to run an all terrain tyre with the drawback that it won't roll as fast as the RR. For the upcoming winter season I would recommend:
    Maxxis Advantage LUST 2.1
    Maxxis High Roller LUST 2.3
    Hutchinson Toro UST 2.3
    WTB Prowler UST 2.1

Of course, if you do a search on the forum, you will find hundreds of threads on the question of tyre choice. These are just the ones I have tried and liked.

Captains, whilst grippy, are very slow and heavy compared to Rons, not a change I'd make!

Just buy Rons from Germany, theyre only €30 from Action Sports, barely any more than Captains.

On-one have some good prices on Swalbe tyres at the mo.

I have used the Captains and the Rons. I'd say the Ron was the better tyre, it rolls better and is more predictable in the wet. In the dry there is a bit of difference but not massive. If you can get the Rons at 30euros I'd go for that but if it was much more expensive I'd prob stick to the Captain.

On One RoRos are very overweight, clearly OEM ones rather than the 'pukka' thing, I'd definitely get them from Germany.

They're the 2010 performance tyres (£14.99) and aren't suitable for tubeless.

They also have (had?) Triple Nano Evos, but there's another thread about them, they were coming out at 560g+.

Despite not being officially tubeless ready the pre-2011 tyres still work very well tubeless.
  • Hmm Thanks guys... I would like to stay with the RR but I shall pass my boredom at work tomorrow looking..

Whats the shipping charge from Germany? Never thought about buying from abroad!

About €6 IIRC. Buy a couple of pairs and you're laughing!
