is there any difference between mountain bike chains and road chains ?

    I havn't got the info but i was going to bid on some 10 speed chain on ebay, Shimano, but i didnt recognise (and can't remember) the type.
    I did a bit of homework and read it wasn't compatible with roadbike setups.

    Was it 10 speed XT ?
    So apparently, some isn't compatible.

    no reason why it shouldn't be - the spacing is the same...
