Shimano Brake Mineral Oil...

Just what is it?
My rear managed to leak a fair bit but only discovered this too late to replace it before a big ride.
Staring at the contents of the reserviour and a pool of 3-in-1 (Finish line Dry) oil that was on the floor after doing my chain resulted in a small experiment since "It's only the back"
After a big ride and 2 short ones the 3-in-1 seems to be doing fine, hasn't boiled off and hasn't resulted in the caliper seizing up.
Anyone done similar?

3 in 1 oil is a mineral based oil
but in saying that i would get it out and replaced asap as you dont know what other additives are in it compared to proper brake mineral oil .0 -

Yeah, that's what concerns me, what does the shimano stuff have that 3-in-1 doesn't, vice versa. It's only an M535 though so not massivley worried about damaging it.
Annoyingly, there's plenty of DOT 4 sitting in the garage.
The Shimano stuff is expensive though and if there's something sitting in the garage that is a suitable alternative...Do Nellyphants count?

3 in 1 contains allsorts of extras, which will probably rot seals. DOT fluid cannot be used.
Any brake mineral oil will work, as will citroen LMH oil.0 -

LHM is quite a low viscosity and will work
but for the sake of getting shimano fluid why bother messing about0 -
Price!
Shimano, 17 quid for a Litre, and never gonig to need that much.
Magura, 27 quid a litre, see above (but smaller bottles available)
Weldtite, 4 quid for 125ml or 32 quid a litre
Castrol LHM is 8 quid a litre...
And I might have had a bottle to hand, but can't find iot if it ever existed.
I need to replace a spokje anyway though so I have to order stuff from a bike shop anyway.Do Nellyphants count?

LHM works great in Shimano, and Magura, (and Tektro!). Oldie, but a goodie. Viscosity changes a lot when it heats anyway, the ranges are fine for these brakes.0

Considering how little you need a bottle of Weldtite from CRC is not exactly big bucks.I don't do smileys.
