  • Very nice. I like the Kashima coated shock. My frame was one of the first ones out of the factory so I got the normal RP23. Are you noticing any improvement in shock performance over your old shock on your LT?

Your choice of a MRP 2X is interesting. I could have used one of those on my Colorado trip. I dont think I need it often enough in Canada to warrant buying one though. Let me know how you get on with that chain device.

I'm definitely in search of a dropper seatpost. I'm waiting for the sub 400g KS one to come out next year though. I race quite a lot so I need to keep it somewhat light weight. How are you liking the action on your KS? Are you noticing any side to side play.

I like the wheels you've got on it. I dont know if I mentioned it before but i've got the Stans ZTR Arch (slightly heavier duty than the Crest), except on Hope hubs. I wanted to go for the Crest but the weight limit was 190lbs and i'm 180lbs so I decided to be safe rather than sorry. I dont know your tyre preference but I definitely would put something larger on there. Those Crossmarks look like 2.1. My favorites right now are the Nobby Nic 2.25. I use the 2.1 Rocket Ron's for racing but I put the Nobby Nic's on for the Colorado trip. There not so good on sand and loose stuff, but there great on hard pack ground.

Also let me know how you get on with the 140mm fork. I've got a 130 and I find I dont need more than about 120. A future upgrade would be a lighter 120mm fork on my TRc.

Have fun on the TRc. I heard a great quote in a review for the TRc the other day: "It's definitely a niche bike, but boy what a fun little niche it is."
  • The kashima coated shock is definately smoother as are the kashima coated forks, there is a noticeable improvement over the older shock.

I had occasional chain drops on the LT, not a huge issue, alsways seemed to be if I did a slight backwards pedal when going over rough stuff, but as I was switching to the carbon frame I decided to reduce the risk and thus damaging the frame. Felt good today, chain seemed a lot quieter.

The KS is good, no side to side play, always seems a little sticky at the start of a ride but as the ride goes on it moves a lot easier.

Generally run 2.1 Crossmarks in the summer and the tracks are very dry at the moment. Used to run wider tyres but after moving to 2.1 they just seemed right.

The 140 fork felt very good today, really stable, no climbing issues but didnt hit any really steep or technical climbs, so will have to wait and see on that.

The TRc really is a great niche to be in, the LBS so far have sold 10 in the last month. The bike just plain rocks.

How are you liking the 1x10? I'm thinking of upgrading my Tallboy to SRAM XX1 when it comes out. Just not sure about the limited range.

Limited range on xx1?! jesus I'd say it has more than enough range! my 34/11-36 1x10 setup has just about enough range, with a 34t chainring it would be more than adequate, personally I'd want a 36 for xx1 to get some of the high end back, although as I find my current setup about right anyway a 38t would be ok. you'll something at either end, but do you really use the lowest and highest gears that often?

I really like the 1x10 set up (32 - 11/36). Got both my bikes set up that way.

Yeh some of the hills around here are a bit harder work (plus I have never been good at hills) but on the trail itself it is so much easier and no messing about with front shifting.
If you ride your local trails you will probably find yourself running in your middle ring the majority of the time and just shifting at the rear when you are on the trails. This is what I found and thats why I shifted to 1x10.

Would love to go with the XX1 but cannot really justify the expense of a whole new set up and hub.
If I was going with a new build then I would look to do it, but wouldnt change what I have at the moment for it.

The thing is, I have 2x10 on my current bike and while I find I rarely use the lower gears, I use the higher ones quite often. It sounds like a good option, so I might give it a go when XX1 comes out.

I went from 2x10 to 1x10 as I hardly ever used the lower ring and yes I loose a few of the higher gears but I dont mind, just spin my legs a bit faster or cruise :D
