And Danny made it look easy... I think pretty much everyone else crashed at least once.

You should watch (and listen) to Rob Warner's preview ride. Rob's - an ex DH rider - is one of the commentators.

That commentary actually made me cry with laughter.

I liked the comment below: These guys actually speak in caps lock.
  • Excellent!
Think the commentary almost better than ride!
Superb ride though and fabulous victory

thats scary just watching. Top riding from the lad and outrageous whip off that jump near the end

If those two commentate like that for every run I can't imagine theyd have any voices left by the end of the day.

    Yep, it's awesome riding.

Why do riders do a whip though? Is it just that it looks cool?
Reason I ask is I saw some motocross riders doing it repeatedly in a race, and I don't think they'd have bothered unless it had a practical purpose. Someone did try to sell me on "it slows them down, so they get back on the ground and therefore on the power sooner" but I understand enough fizziks to know that's bobbins. About the only thing I could see it doing is shortening the horizontal distance of the jump...

(Side note: Sidecar motocross racing is completely insane).
Sometimes parts break. Sometimes you crash. Sometimes it’s your fault.
  • yeah it looks cool and feels even cooler!! 8)

There is nothing like impartial commentating, and that was nothing like impartial commentating!
    Brilliant riding and commentating.

I think tail whips may be about lining the bike up in the correct direction for the next straight. This is off the top of my head and may be total rubbish, but after 15 seconds of thought, it makes a bit of sense.

It's only about lining the bike up on a hip jump ie one that changes direction, otherwise it's just damn cool as Frankie says

I haven't heard the commentary yet but I guess Rob Warner just about exploded when he crossed the line. That is one awesome run, worthy of the great Sam Hill. Danny Hart is surely a world champion in waiting and from the look of that run he won't be waiting for too long.

The commentators begin exploding as soon as Danny leaves the start gate and the explosion just gets bigger and bigger!

So, tailwhips both look good and perform a useful function. Win-win for rider and spectators.

I'm not always a fan of his commentary but you've got to love it when someone is so excited by the event they lose themselves in the moment.

it's not a tail whip its just a whip  !!!!

Only thing cooler than a whip is a scrub and that's a fact!
  • haha ok I was wrong this is cooler, no footed scrub;
