very nice.
Agree about losing the rear mudguard though

Free: remove mudguard
Non-free: Shorter stem may improve performance (depending on how you ride) and will improve the look if you go for a nice one (I've got a Sunline V-One AM in silver which looks p-i-m-p)Big guy; small air!0 -
Good bike, You'll enjoy it.
I would ditch the Mountain King, at least on the front, changed mine for a High Roller, a big improvement.

Panaracer Trailrakers make a good winter tyre and they are normally at the top of most peoples list.

From the looks of those shorts your mudguard wasnt doing much anyway! I love the xcell grips myself, but pushed my controls too far inwards so picked up a wider bar which has things set up perfect now.
As far as tyres go, I wouldnt necessarily get a pair, try one with more tread/grip/whatever than you currently have on the front, if it works, then great, if not, then transfer it to the back and get the next step up and run that on the front. WIll work out at the same price. Worst case scenario you have two different tyres, middle is you get two of the same f/r and best, you only needed to change the front.
My Favourite Allroud tyres are highrollers, I keep one on the front whatever the weather, and change between a highroller and a crossmark rear if its wet or dry0 -
I won't be taking the genesis out for a whaile as i came of today broken wrist and buggered the bike up pictures to follow

Hey Sam,
Great thread! Good to have the pic's too.... Sorry to see your injuries! By the damage to the lid it's a good job you were wearing one!
I stumbled across this thread because I have just bought the same bike on the Cycle Scheme. I spent a long time looking around our LBS's and was torn between 2 in the end. A 2011 Giant Talon 00 and the Core 20. at £100 less than the giant the Genesis Core 20 had the same spec (aside from the rear mech which was XT on the giant) and of course the Genesis comes with the shimano disks brakes unlike the giant's own brand set. My only issue with the genesis is the looks, I like the basic tube design but not the colour. But then, I cant see the colour when i'm riding so not the most important consideration!
You're fall has worried me though - Not great for the wheel to buckle like that! I wonder, did you get the wheels re-trued after the first few miles?
Aside from that, how have you found the brakes/forks on the bike?
So, I now have to wait until my Cycle Scheme voucher comes through!
Regards

i have found the brakes really good although i upgraded the front to a 180 rotor instead instread of the 160, I haven't had the chance to find out the difference yet as i'm in a cast for a while and the Forks work well for what i do mainly XC
