Hi all,

Just joined the club, and new to MTB biking for about 6 months now.

I bought a Scott Scale 60 from a friend, who moved to road riding so never used
the Scott, Its a 2009 Model but was like new when I bought it.

I am doing forest trails mainly, but have just started learning to jump and doing
some street tricks, so have I got the right bike, is it strong enough or am I going
to wreck it ?, I am fairly fit, but finding the jumps, and street ticks very tough to learn
I am expecting to much to pick it all up quickly, Is there anyway to get some lessons ?
I live near Chelmsford, Essex.

The Scale is an XC bike, while it will allow you to learn jumps and tricks its not the right sort of bike if you intend to do this full time and develop into bigger jumps and more exotic tricks.

You might be better with a jump/trails bike.

  • Jump and street tricks - probably need a completely different bike.
But those are uncomfortable to ride over any distance.

If I were you, I would keep the Scott for the trails and buy a bmx.
(I'm old-school. I don't like MTBs that ahve been made for trick riding - never have. It's a BMX or nothing.)
    2007 Felt Q720 (the ratbike)
2012 Cube Ltd SL (the hardtail XC 26er)
    2014 Lapierre Zesty TR 329 (the full-sus 29er)
  • Thanks for reply folks,

Not sure about BMX thing as I am try the jump/trick thing just to help my
Trail riding skills, crossing ditches and getting over hazzards, so I don't
ever expect to do any crazy air, just mastered wheelies after about three weeks
of practice, trying manuals now, and bunny hops, can't be to wreckless as I'm
self employed designer, and need my hands, already broke my little finger, and
a torn tendon in my foot. Age 40 they don't heal as quick as the whipper snappers
I ride the forests with. Wish I started 15 years ago, but motorbike were cooler.

Anyway I rambling now, thanks for tips.

With what you describe in your second post the scale will be fine.

Don`t worry, its a cracking bike and will do anything you require of it as a beginner and further :)
  • Seems bike enough for me right now, it's very light, good forks and gear set etc,...
was'nt sure it was strong enough being so light.. but on I go..

Next ride out Epping Forest, London/Essex boarder, been riding there a bit,
endless trials and some experienced pals to ride with.
