Just a few quick questions for a 1X10 setup

1. Are Sram and Shimano 10 speed cassettes compatible with each others rear mechs?
2.If running a single setup on front does the chain ring have to be 10 speed specific?
3.Are all 10 speed chains the same.

    1/ Yes
    2/ No
3/ All chains marked for 10 speed are compatable, yes.

    Hmm, sort of...

    1. Yes
    2. On a 10 speed cassette yes it does
    3. Shimano do road and MTB specific chains, with different profiling on the plates. They are cross compatible, but you may as well use the 'right' one. Other brands are fine.

Well I actually misread your post, I read it as "if running a single ring does it have to be a 10 speed chain", the answer to the question you actually asked is indeed "no".

Comment on chains still stands though, they're all compatible, but Shimano do do road and MTB ones, so you may as well ensure you get an MTB one.
