29.8mm seat post?

I just took the seat post out of my new bike and it says that it has a 29.8mm seat post. I measured the diameter and it looks to be right. If i want to change the seatpost would a 27.2mm work or would the clamp not be able to do it up enough?

You would need a shim to be able to use a 27.2 post,
