What annoys you the most about road cycling?

People that rag their engines to overtake you in a 30 zone when you're doing over 30...0

Cities, especially when you live in them and need to spend half an hour cycling out of them in traffic or on awful cycle paths before you reach decent roads...
What's been annoying me most recently however is mislaying tools etc. Building a bike over the weekend and I swear I must have spent half of yesterday searching for tools I put down "somewhere" just a couple of minutes ago... The black insulating tape I bought on Saturday is sentient, I'm sure of it. Lost it on three separate occasions. Once it had crawled underneath a small bit of paper on the corner of the sofa, another time it had rolled off the back of a cabinet and wedged itself between the cabinet and the wall. Always happens when I'm holding the end of a newly wrapped bit of handlebar tape or have finally managed to thread some cable housing properly and need something to hold it in place...0 -
I find that I enjoy cycling so much that I'm not annoyed by anything! Other people's antics aren't my concern unless I'm knocked off the bike. Getting the gear on, packing a little seatpack and heading off into the hills for a few hours is such a wonderfully simple pleasure. I can't think of anything that annoys me on a ride! Wind, hard toil, traffic, errant pedestrians - all these things are inevitable; keep the blood pressure down and keep a smile on your face!0

Also I've noticed many of these, pull right into the kerb when they stop at the lights to stop you filtering past. :evil:0 -

Wind...
Everything else I take with an ever popular English stiff upper lip...
But the wind has me in a downward spiral of wailing and howling at the sky like a lunatic! (I mean that literally... I find myself screaming at the wind after a prolonged gust in the face!)
How can my Rectangular route feature a solid headwind on all legs?! Its a meteorological impossibility!!!
Its the reason my bike is "resting" until next year. I cant stand getting home and thinking that it would have been the perfect ride without the wind.
(Im actually getting riled thinking about it now!)0 -

I realised that it wasn't when I was nine years old, back in the 14 Century. Headwind to school, headwind home.Purveyor of "up"0 -

I'm dying to ask some of those retards what exactly is so important that they can't wait another 5 seconds instead of squeezing between me and a keep-left bollard.0 -

Round where I live a lot of re-programming of traffic lights appears to have been done. You know the sort of thing, green light for pedestrians even when you know no one was there to push the button. I think Councils are using them as a traffic calming device.0 -

Yes, or the muppets that just have to, as if their life depends on it, they just have to overtake you. Even though we are both racing towards lights. That are turning red. That was so worth it pal. And so worth me getting up to the stop line before you.

Great attitude, but kind of missing the point of the title of the thread.
Happy for you though that nothing annoys you.
Based on your location and response is it fair to assume that you are over 60 and live way out in the sticks so only really have nice smooth country roads on most of your rides and simply ride for pleasure so don't have to put up with the things that annoy other cyclists?
Whatever - I am glad you are very happy and nothing annoys you. Good for you.0 -

Although what does wee-wee me off is coming up to red lights, driver takes over you and pulls in right next to the kerb immediately and stops....they always get a scrape down the car from me!
As for the worst past of road cycling....living by the sea, for me is has to be the wind! Any long ish ride always has me coming back towards the sea on the way home and it's always a strong wind coming off the sea that i battle with!
I completely agree. There are so many times I just wish the weather would fkcu right off! Who does God think he is? Going to sleep and blowing his wind out so heavy? Crying for hours.
You would of thought being as old as he is he should calm the fcku down and just give us all nice weather. I guess when you are that old something has to pass our days, his milliseconds.
I did think the Boxing Day Tsunami was a bit out of order though.

''Glass I just put into the shocking state of Britains roads. I am unsure how a country like France that is twice the size of Britain manages to maintain immaculate roads?''
That is generally because there's alot less people and the country is a lot bigger.
I have lived in SW France for about 4 years and just taken up cycling (hips gave away too much running) anyway a mate sold me a second hand BH Bike and i have just started going out, the roads are great although its very hilly where i am. Just ordered my shimano shoes and am wondering what pedals to get so looking forward to my cycling forays..

The road surfaces. Britain pays billions to the EU every year which then gets given to the "poorer" countries who spend the money on fantastic smooth roads with wide lanes which is why all the pro cycle teams are based in France,Spain and Italy. The UK just take your taxes and patch the roads badly or cover them in sharp chippings.
maybe I should emigrate !!0 -

Yeah yeah. Yada yada. France - net contributions to the EU, 2007-2013, €51bn; Italy - €41bn; Spain minus €2.2bn. Simply not true that we bankrupting ourselves to pay for the roads of any of those countries - with the possible (and very marginal) exception of Spain which put in 2% less than it got out.0 -
The bloke who was like a moaning old woman on last week's club ride. Sitting at the back and not happy with the performance of Cruds even though it was pouring with rain (so he would have got wet no matter what), "moan, moan, we used to have rules about proper mudguards, moan, moan, they should be called mudflaps because that is what they are, moan, moan"...shut up and do a turn at the front you git!0

In Finland where I am at the moment the roads are much better (although not as good as in France etc.), and it's paid for from their own taxes.0 -

Actually, I'm 38 and I live on the edge of The Peak District. I ride a hybrid to commute everyday 13 miles through the hills of Sheffield, then during the week have 3 or 4 30 milers in the evenings and usually an 80 miler at the weekend over the hills in the peaks on the road bike. I usually squeeze a few MTB rides in The Dark Peak (Cut gate and Jacobs) each month too. I'm not one for shirking a challenge. I deal with overly angry car drivers (they MUST get past at all costs!) on my commute and in the peaks everyday, I simply don't let their irritation spoil my enjoyment. I'm sure I'll be more than annoyed when some arsehole eventually knocks me off. Until then, I don't let much under my skin!
Cheers.0
