Short sleeve base layer and waterproof jacket

Hello,

I'm wondering whether anyone can recommend one of each in the title? I'm looking for a cheap (available online) waterpoof jacket that I will only use in the event it absolutely buckets it down.

I'm also looking for a thermal base layer that is short sleeve please.

Merino wool is pretty much unbeatable as a base layer, and Planet X are doing the best value ones at the moment.

Groundeffect.co.nz do very good waterproofs at a decent price (although it depends a bit on current exchange rates). Wiggles DHB range is also very good value.

Combinations of these plus Assos Roubaix arm warmers have not had to use anything else for Spring and Summer.

Cheap polyprop vests/t's are an alternative to normal base layers. You can usually pick these up from camping shops for a few groats.

plu8s one for planet x merino baselayers. The summer weight ones are excellent, no overheeting, but good wicking. The DHB waterproofs from wiggle aer great value too.
