been thinking as i dont ever use the large chainring i have been pondering changing it to using just the two rings up front. i have 8 gears at the back so would this have to be changed to a nine or a ten speed ? and would i need to change the shifter upfront aswel?

just after a bit more info on this and how to go about doing it.

No, as your just starting out I would leave it as it is, as your fitness increases you may start using the big ring.

If you go 2 and bash you will end up with 16 gears and your shifter and front mech will not need changing just the front mech wants resetting to stop the shift to the big ring.

You may want to take the big ring off and put a bash ring on and maybe swap the middle ring to one to give a different gear ratio.
