Best to find a few local riders to join you and make it a social ride. I did one solo, but that was because I did it in 6 days at 150 miles a day and no-one wanted to join me. But if you do it over 8 or more days, you'll get company.

My opinion is to avoid an organised event. I saw one down here in the SW and there were large groups on the busy main A30 to Lands End. No-one in their right mind would do that around here. There are far better routes.

On that note, I have my LEJoG/JoGLE info, including routes, here:

    Enjoy
  • Thanks Jim.
Comments noted, although locals not keen by such a challenge (mostly mtb'ers).
Your comments re A30 are common to those who have experience of the LEJoG, thanks for the link.
  • I did the Ride across Britain in 2010 (JoGLE - but they're doing it the other way next year) - excellent ride and really well organised. Have a look here: http://www.rideacrossbritain.com/
  • I am going with the Deloitte ride next year after a lot of thought on the matter. There are pros and cons to this- the price being the main factor as even after getting an early bird place it is still relatively extortionate.

Having said that there are many advantages with the focus just being on getting on the bike and doing the riding.

I will also not have to buy a different bike which I would have had to do if I did it in a small self supported small group carrying gear etc.

    Down to personal choice really!

    Not cheap though!!
You've no won the Big Cup since 1902!
  • Wow 1500 plus vat it makes some of the charity ones seem almost cheap.
If I went solo I would put my faith in the UK postal system rather than carry.
2 changes of cycle gear (wash other during night stop) other items stuffed in small frame bags etc
