Hi all,

Yesterday during my ride I started to have front mech shifting problems. Upon inspection tonight I have notice the bb cable guide has split on the front cables side and will need replacing. The cables are new so not the issue. My guide looks like this http://www.pezcyclingnews.com/photos/te ... bunder.jpg and this is the closet I can find to the cable guide I currently have http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/shimano-sm-s ... -prod6499/

Is this the right one to order or do I need something else?

Thanks

  • Hi
The one you want is a Campagnolo gear tunnel guide which has a flexible radius for the rear mech gear cable.
This suits the Trek frame and is availble at Ribble for about £2.50. :D
  • Thanks for the reply. The Shimano item arrived today and does looks close but on your advise for the sake of a couple of quid I also have the campy one on the way and will decide which is best once I have both with me. I am treating the bike to new brake and gear cables too even though the gears cables were recently replace I will need to feed them through the bb guide so I may as well have new everything for optimal shifting and will probably fit them on Friday when I get time

  • Ok quick update. The Shimano one fits perfectly and I have the campy one too bit it is too long but would be easily trimmed down so I will use that on the next replacement. Also It turns out the problem was due to the rubbish Clarkes cables I fitted about 6 weeks ago. The outers of the cable were not able to take the pressure of front mech shifts and had collapsed under the load so I would recommend avoiding them seeing as the stock shimano cables that came fitted on the bike lasted 2 1/4 years thats pretty poor.

All brake & gear cables now replaced with shimano xtr cables, new bb guide and new bar tape to finish the season in style :)
