I'm very tempted by the end of model year discounts on the above bikes. Does anyone have one and particularly like or dislike it (and the Scott "experience" in general)?

Thanks
Nick

I test rode the CR1 team (went Ti in the end though). Found it very comfortable but still responsive. The frame is very light (a few years ago it was the lightest carbon frame from a mainstream manufacturer) and would easily take upgrades to give you a really exceptional bike. It did quite well in the C+ 2011 Bike of The Year test. At the current sale prices I think it's a bargain!

I was fortunate to win a cr1 in cycling plus competition around 18 months or so ago. It's been a great bike and very comfortable to boot. I've upgraded it no Athena and the wheels to kinetic ones and have no complaints at all. I love it's looks, it's light and I would buy one in the future.
  • I brought a CR1 Team a few weeks ago and it is a fantastic bike. It just takes the harshness out of the road, but it still rides like a stiff road bike. I tried 5 bikes that day (lower end Scott, Spesh Roubaix, couple of Giant TCR's) and the CR1 was my favourite ride. Smoother than the TCR's and the Roubaix didn't have any feeling and felt sluggish, plus the riding position was too upright for me.

I was pretty gutted when the Scott dealer wouldn't give me much of a discount, when the others were offering 25% off, but I held off. Checked on-line for end of year deals everyday and when I saw I could get £55 off, I jumped at it!

I ordered from Westbrook and the bike came early the next day, just had to attach the handlebars and seat post (buy a 5nm torque wrench, lots of carbon!). The gears were far from indexed (and the front mech was wired incorrectly, cable wasn't properly seated in the grip). Nothing major, I do need to index the gears again. Oh and it's started developing clicking in the BB area when I peddle (was fine at first), so I will find out shortly how well that is handled.

One thing Scott doesn't do, which most of their competition does. Is lifetime warranties on the frame, Scott is only offers 3 year or 5 years if you get it services annually. Aside from that, it really is a lovely bike!

PS: I changed the seat to my Fizic Arione after a couple of rides, I just couldn't live with it.
  • I have the 2010 pro with 6700 Ultegra

I love this bike. Really comfortable, yet responsive and quick. It's a fantastic value package all up. Only mod I've made is to replace the seat (although I use the Scott seat on my old bike which sits on the turbo and it's pretty comfortable)

    I would definitely recommend
  • All,
Thanks for taking the time to follow up on this. Encouraged that I didnt get a raft of "Stay away - its all bad" type reviews.

    Thanks
  • Hi BornAgainRoadie

I bought the 2010 frame set and built up myself. Absolutely love it. Soaks up all the bumps, and is really responsive when you put the power down.

Go for it, you won't regret it.

    That's my 2 pence worth.

  • I'm English, been living in Australia for 4 years..

I bought a 2011 CR1 Pro a few months ago from my lbs here after they offered me $1,000 discount off the $4,000 regular price.

It's a great bike with excellent components. It's fast, great handling, and very comfortable to ride compared to my other ride, a Felt F95. A
And that matte black finish on the 2011 model makes it look really mean.

Go for it - you won't regret it.
  • I have a 2009 with 105, very happy with it, good balance of speed and comfort.

Only thing I really didn't like on the one I tested last year was the very wide top tube. I must have narrow hips as my knees kept knocking the top tube!

I've got a 2011 CR1 Pro frame with Sram Force. It's light, as responsive as my previous Cervelo S1 but doesn't describe the tarmac to my bum in the level of detail that the S1 did. It's not a sofa, like I found the Madone and Roubaix which were far too disconnected from the road, but neither is it an uber aggressive race machine.

It's light, soaks up the bumps but still lets you know what's going on with the road.

I've done 3,500 miles on mine so far and I love it to bits.

I think anyone who has seen me would do a proper ROFL at that suggestion. One thing I can't be accused of is fat anything. If I had fat knees, that would account for my entire bodyfat!
