7Stanes accommodation
Hi there
I'm thinking of doing a week long trip up to the 7 stanes but having trouble finding info on accommodation up there; especially mtb'er friendly. Seems odd so I guess I'm just looking in the wrong place.
I'm thinking of around the Dumfries area as it seems a reasonably located 'hub' to access quite a few centres; campsites, bunkhouses, B&B etc...all considered.
Anyone got any ideas or previous experience?? Any help is much appreciated!
Many thanks

For hotel try www.mabiehousehotel.co.uk which is right at Mabie forest.
Also try www.marthrownofmabie.com which has campsite and bunkbeds at Mabie.

Also www.gorsebank.com is at Dalbeattie so close to Dalbeattie 7 stanes.

Trailpuppet: A list of B&B's would be great if you get time! Many thanks!0 -
We stayed at Caddon View B&B in Innerleithen a couple of weeks ago. Nice place, good food etc, secure bike storage and a hose for washing down..
Innerleithen Xc 5 mins ride away, and we also rode to Glentress, though be aware the road between the two is lethal. B&b landlord said to take care - and as it turned out he was right. So if you stay in Innerleithen, drive to Glentress.

Stayed at the Gorsebank place, it was cheap, relatively comfortable but a Bit out of the way, no close pub shop etc, which you need if you stay in a pod or wigwam. I think I'd stay at the Mabie House hotel next time.0

For innerleithen and Glentress stayed in Peebles next to Glentress and withing cycling distance of Innerleithen.

Urr Lodge
Couple of miles north of Dalbeattie.. there's a bunkhouse type affair and a separate cottage. Lockable bike storage, bike wash etc.
Four of us stayed there last year - ended up booking the cottage out for a long weekend as it worked out marginally cheaper than all of us in the bunkhouse.
There's a pub in the village up the road with decent food and beer - about half an hour to walk to. Or an hour on the way back...0 -
Stayed at Cowans B&B four times now & it's always been spot on. Breakfast is huge, they are very biker friendly and have a drying room, there's even a small bar and Sky TV.

Stayed at Auldgirth north of Dumfries. Great cottage with bike storage in the shed.

When we went up we stayed in this place in Dumfries for easy access to Mabie, Ae and Dalbeattie. Run by a lovely couple (an american bloke who's taken to Scotland like a duck to water and his scottish wife), good food in town, very friendly and somewhere to store and clean the bikes.
For Kirroughtree and Glentrool we stayed in the Newton Stewart SHYA place because it was cheap, unforutnately the bikes had to stay in/on the car though, although it's a quiet enough area and they were safely there the next morning, nice and big, not too far into town for pubs etc.
When we went to Glentress/Innerleithen we stayed at the SYHA place near there too, Broadmeadows, wouldn't reccomend it, I'd stay there again becuase it's cheap, and it's lovely and quiet, but it's very out of the way, bit of a nuisance to get to and not. It's much more of a walkers place that you'd stop in if you didn't fancy camping.0 -
It might be a bit late to respond to this. We at Atlas Campervan and Motorhome hire have geared our offer to bikers wishing to travel around a bit; bagging trails. If you want to know more check out http://www.atlashiredrive.co.uk
We have bike racks, pressure washers, spares kits, heating. If you don't want to do the same trail each day, change the scenery and take your accommodation with you.0
