    Oh for f*ck sake.

That'll affect his classics season next year too.

    Good.

Well, I don't mean 'good' as in 'good' but rather as in 'good'.

This poor creature should have been sent home days ago due to the hole in his testicle. Yes, pro-cyclists are hard men et cetera, but what on earth was to be gained by letting him continue?

Odd how your body often finds another way to say 'STOP'.

Anyway, poor Tommeke. I hope he recovers quickly and 2012 is a better season for him.
  • Scaphoid can heal slowly due to poor blood supply - my missus broke hers and it needed a graft due to the way it broke - took ages to get more or less right - hopefully Boonen's isn't that bad.

it's a hard life if you don't weaken.
  • i wouldn't be surprised if the DS asked him "are you sure you can't continue Tommeke?"

He's been complaining for a while now that he needs to complete a proper 3 weeker in order to make sure he's top shape come Spring.

For most classics riders, the preparation starts around now.

    6-7 months ahead.

Tour riders say they properly start preparing (in terms of training) in January.

Without the miles, it's just tougher to be 100% in spring.

Can anyone see Boonen winning another classic?

    Oofff!

He won Gent-Wevelgem, but given his palmares that's slim pickings really.

Not in the way he once could, (i.e. by riding away from everybody), but if we get a Flanders or Roubaix where the favourites mess about a bit and a reasonable sized group comes to the finish he can still sprint faster than most. Would like to see him back to his best though, the more contenders there are in the classics the better the racing (generally).

  • I think he's still one of the favourites for Flanders and Roubaix - favourites don't always win bike races but I'd be surprised if he doesn't bag one or two more big one day wins before his career is out.

Don't despair. He came 4th in this year's Ronde, it's not like he's completely lost it. G-W showed that he's even still capable of winning a bunch sprint if Cav isn't there.
  • Not riding worlds and season ended, according to Quickstep twitter.

The world's suited him last year and this year.

How many more worlds will come around that suit him?

    Sucks.

Valkenburg, Florence, Ponferrada = none until he's 34 years old.
2015 is between Richmond and Oman. He's good in Oman 8)
