Saddle or shorts?

I'm sorry, but there is no other way to put this, but my bottom is sore.
I completed my first 100 mile ride today and it all well well apart from sitting!
RIde wise, the bike feels fine.
I know there have been hundreds of threads about which saddle, this one is slightly different.
I have a bontrager saddle and santini shorts.
Am I better getting more expensive (more padded shorts) or do I hunt for another saddle?
I know there are a few things I could do to help the situation, eg put more miles in, prior to such a big ride, ride the bike more often to get my bottom more accustomed to the pain. I say pain and not discomfort as I am sure that tomrorow morning I will have a brusie the same shape as my saddle!

Well, I suspect most answers will tell you that saddle and shorts are a personal choice.

I've got a Bontrager saddle and it fit's my ar*e fine. However, my older bib shorts are Endura, and after about 20miles, I'd start to get a bit tender. My latest shorts are Craft Elite, and they're fantastic. No more sore ar*e.

The padding in the Craft shorts isn't a great deal thicker than that of the Endura shorts, but it's structured a lot better.

First thing you can do is get your ar*e measured at a Specialized BG store, and see if your saddle is suitable. Other than that, it might just be down to trial and error I'm afraid.

edit: oh yeah, where is the pain ? It may be that yor saddle angle or fore/aft position could do with adjusting slightly.

Thank you for your advice. Ny saddle is level, I do probably it slightly forward on the saddle. THe pain is definitely on the sit bone,
  • Do you use chamois cream?
If not it may be a cheap avenue to explore first

    Why?

The OP isn't complaining of chafing, just of tenderness where the pressure is the greatest. Chamois cream wouldn't do anything.
