2005 Giant XTC Seat Post problems

Hi all
I've recently been looking at a dropper seatpost but stuck with limited options for what appeared to be 27.2mm seat tube diameter. However it was recently pointed out that the XTC has an internal shim in the seat tube which could be removed to provide a more usable 31.7mm. I can't believe I never noticed this before :?
Problem is, I can't get the thing out or even know IF I should take the thing out as the bike came with it installed.
Can anybody help? It seems pretty much seized in there.
Thanks

27.2mm is the most common seatpost size around ! you shouldn't have any problems getting any post in that size. 31.7mm on the otherhand is very odd size.
I had an XTC like yours a while ago...am pretty sure I put a 30.9mm post in (second most common size) though I'd check on the giant website to be sure you got the size correct.
From what I can remember the shim is only plastic so should come out ok...though with all things MTB related trail cr*p and water ingress does a loverly job of getting bits stuck !0
