Can any shed some light on the co2 pumps, how long does a 16g canister last and are they worth it?

They inflate once very quickly. If you need to inflate quickly then they re great, if not then take a big pump like a mountain morph

16gr will do a single tyre, so about 35/40 odd psi, depending on the tyre width
Yes they are worth it, but be selective where you buy the cartridges, they are much cheaper at Halfords in multi packs than they are buying single units at the LBS.

Make sure the CO² inflator will take both threaded and non-threaded cartridges. My reasoning for this is that sometimes you cannot always find threaded cartridges

The Topeak OneTimer is a good example. I have the previous generation Topeak which is similar and it works great..

I do recommend a track or hand pump for general use though, no use wasting the inflator cartridges for general inflation.
  • I actually have the Topeak one timer Raymondavalon linked to. Have had cause to use it a few times now. Twice out on the trail, and once in the garage to seat a tubeless tyre that was stubborn as fark!

Just ordered myself 10x 16g Co2 cartridges off ebay the other week for just under a tenner. All arrived very fast and work nicely.

For me, it's something I'd not leave home without now. I'd much rather stick a tubeless patch on and inflate it back up than stick a tube in there, but that's just me. I should also point out that I do also carry round a mountain morph hand pump too. The extra weight is not an issue and it's a handy thing to have

1 cartridge Will inflate 1 of my Nobby Nic 2.25s to around 25psi.

Have to say though, if I wasn't running tubeless, I'd probably not bother with one. Again though, that's just me.

I bought a box of 10 for £11, shipping was £5 though. quick delivery.

I use them for the road bikes, not the mtb. Since I broke my arm, I have major problems pumping up to 60 psi, let alone the 90 psi I need.

They're an emergency use thing anyway, I'd not use anything else. I use the Innovations Microflate, which gives you plenty of modulation (you unscrew the cannister to 'fire' it, so you can either do it very slowly, or all in one go), it weighs nothing and there's nowt to go wrong. IME ones with triggers and what not are to be avoided!

    Justify that statement please......

Well I said IME, so I don't really need to justify it, it's my experience, and that experience is that all the ones with triggers I've used lack modulation, they tend to feel very plasticky and vague and you end up putting all the air in suddenly, I've also had a trigger break, rendering the pump head useless.

The Ultraflate has far better control than any other I've used, has nothing to go wrong and is cheap. That's a win for me. YMMV.

Picked up one of those at Tkmaxx for a tenner, haven't needed/tried it yet.

Whats wrong with putting all the air in at once? You can let air back out you know...

If you only want to use part of it to save money, you're being a pikey.

Ordered Sunday, Dispatched Monday, arrived tuesday 8)

Decided to try one in my Topeak OneTimer, inflates almost instantly, works brilliantly 8)

Will be much better for a trailside repair, faster and easier. I always carry at least two tubes CST DH tubes for my bike and usually carry an old patched tube or two in case someone else needs one.
