Converting Road to CX

Ok,
I have a Kinesis road bike running 9 speed compact campag setup and I'm looking to start dabbling in cyclocross.
If I buy a cyclocross frame can I swap all the gear across from my road bike, as long as I buy a set of cantilever brakeset and a suitable pair of cx tires?
Just checking really that the campag ergo shifters will be suitable for CX?
Cheers,
Dru

Dont CX bikes tend to run much smaller rings on their chainsets? Something like a 46 outer ring? You may struggle with road gearing0

What's your clearance like for mud ? Cx bikes need this. Wider tyres plus mud add up.0

gearing is different tho you maybe able to get say a 46 tooth ring to fit.
What wheels are you running ? you could easily trash a nice set on a cross race (tho the pros use top quality sets...yeh their pros !) strong set of 32spoke normal lace wheels maybe in order.
Otherwise yep straight swap (providing seatpost is the same diameter and the bottom bracket the same fixture)0 -
My cross bike has a compact chainset with 12-27 cassette. Might be worth trying a 13-36 cassette if you're worried about gearing.
