Swapping crank arms

There's a really nice 2 piece chainset I want on ebay. Unfortunately the crank arms are 175mm, I usually roll with 170mms. Would it be possible to have my LBS replace the 175's with 170's?

Why don't you just buy the right size in the first place all you are going to end up using off ebay is the chainrings, surely??
  • Not exactly sure what you mean? So you're asking about buying a chainset and then having the arms swapped by the LBS?? You'd only be left with 2 chainrings from what you bought, plus a BB if included.

Seems a bit pointless really - unless i've totally missed the point?

Usually the drive side crank arm is integrated with the spider ( to which the chain rings are attached ) so the length cannot be changed.

You could change the non-drive side crank, but I don't think having different length cranks would be a good idea!

So this doesn't seem to make any sense.
