  • I've not used one but personally I wouldnt go for a cheap unbranded one.

Maybe have a search for low use 2nd hand ones in your area. They are pretty heavy so postage is relatively expensive - but you may find a Tacx / Elite / CycleOps etc at a similar price.

I agree, have a good serch on ebay.

Look at this.. Someone got an absolute bargain on the turbo in the ebay link below. (These go for about £150 on ebay 2nd hand normally). They spelt CycleOps wrong, so it got less visibility.

Got a similar one from SJS Cycles Ebay shop, does the job for me as don't use a turbo that much (mainly when icy outside or want a quick workout), is solidly built and makes a bit of a whirring noise but not a problem as I use it in a garage.
  • I got mine a few weeks back on Gumtree, had only been used 2 or 3 times and was still in as new condition. £50 (It's one of the slightly older ELITE ones with the chunky frame)
  • i was fitted to my bike in store at JE James in Chesterfield and they used this and it was smooth secure and quiet:

i will be investing in one of these come the winter months

The cheap ones arent that smooth a ride, they can be a bit noisy and err cheap. BUT if youre on a budget they do the job, bit like a cheap groupset doesnt feel/look as good but it still changes gear. pay your money and take your choice.
