Refitting bar tape.

I've got new bars and levers on the way and was just wondering; when I unwrap the bars, can I reuse the same bar tape?

Might sound like a bit of a stupid question, but I don't want to start the job and be unable to finish it.

It's bog standard Deda tape if that makes any difference.

Cheers.

  • Not sure if Deda is really sticky and may tear apart but either way, its likely to be dirty and stretched around the levers especially. Might prove tricky to refit on different bars. For £10 or so, i'd suggest new stuff.

I've just ordered Bontrager Gel Cork which I love - £7.79 delivered (including price matching of JE James) by Evans Cycles. Plenty of colours available and helps absorb vibration nicely.

  • Thanks for that. I'll probably use the old tape to practice and fit new tape to finish the job off nicely.

As it happens, I have some of that Bontrager bar tape in the garage. I was going to put it on another bike but haven't got round to it. I'm a bit of a tart, though and have Deda bars, stem and seat post, so I may get some more Deda tape.

  • When I removed my last tape (cinelli cork) it all ripped as I tried to take it off. Left some sticky stuff on the bars.

Remember: as Handy Manny says: lefty loosey righty tighty: when wrapping the bar tape make sure you wrap it so that when its on it stays on: Park Tools link below showing what I mean:

Excellent decision. You may be interested in http://www.wiggle.co.uk/deda-top-cap/?u ... _Top%20Cap

Really sets off the Deda bar/stem/seatpost COMBO.

If you can get it off in one piece you're a better man than me! And if you can then use it to do a neat wrap on your new bars you're into walking on water / catching speeding bullet territory!

Treat yourself to some new stuff!
