ChainReaction FS-1

Mornin' all.
I've been thrashing this wee beastie around for just over a year now.
I've been up and down a few of the Welsh centres on this and its great fun - for a cheap frame it rides unbelievably well... I think these frames are cloned from a 2006 Norco Fluid. Its a good all rounder and makes light work of the average trail centres.
Some rear end flex is noticable, but then its not built quite like an orange. And it has a ridiculous standover height (no injuries so far but a couple of close shaves).
Feel free to hit me up with some suggestions on upgrades! I'm currently looking to get some decent hubs to replace my now bent XT rear and LX front, maybe Hopes or Goldtecs. I'm not wanting to touch the shock (as its an awkward 165mm that I probably won't take to another bike) and I'd rather save money toward a better frame. Anything else is up for change

That's a pretty cool budget build, i like it Is it one of those brand-x frames?0

what do you mean you've 'bent your hubs' ?. I don't understand how it's possible.--

Hi all, yes thats technically a Brand-X not CRC
As for bent hub, it could be the axle, but the two bearings on normal shimano hubs are right at the ends next to the dropouts, that seems like it would be almost impossible to bend. I figured it is most likely the interface between cassette and freehub that has gone wong. This isn't the only shimano hub I've had this happen on, its happened on the previous rear hub (vanilla deore hub IIRC) and also on my two year old road bike which uses a LX hub.0 -
What, exactly, is wrong with the hubs? Why do you think they are 'bent' ?--

just this:
the side of hub near frame spins around perfectly
the side of hub near freehub wobbles like a wobbly thing
= "bent"0 -

There is always a bit of wobble in freehubs, all the freehubs I have used have a wobble in them.
from my understanding, if one side is straight and the other is bent, the wheel will not turn freely.
is there a wobble in the wheel? or does it track straight?
do you have the same issue in the front hubs?--

^ hub, not freehub - the freehub is fine - the hub shell itself runs out of true and there is a wobble in the wheel which matches the runout. This was not present when hub was new and wheel was first built up. The freehub had a small amount of wobble when new.
I've had no particular issues with front hubs.0 -
Sounds like the axle is bent or something, get some cone spanners and get the axle out (careful with the bearings) and see if it's straight or not.0

Sorry for coming in late, been touring around Devon and Cornwall.
from your first post: " I'm currently looking to get some decent hubs to replace my now bent XT rear and LX front"
this imples you think the front hub is bent.
my understanding is that if the hub is bent, then the brake rotor will also be out of true and cause rubbing. So my view is that if the brake rotor is not rubbing, then the hub is fine. Unless: you have bent the rim of the hub and so have a wobble in the wheel. But then you would see damage to the rim and possible damaged spokes.
If there is no binding of the axle bearings or the brakes, I doubt the axle is significantly bent. Any wobble in the wheel may be due to a wobble in the rim--

No worries
The front hub is ok. I worded that quite poorly.
The rear does indeed wobble in time with the brake disc (which does rub despite being brand new) and rim. It has in the past seen a lot of use in my hardtail. Both hubs are quite old now (3/4 years). As mentioned earlier, its is possible to see the hub shell itself run out of true - so I'm not going to try and fix the hub when it cost £30 in the first place.0
