I've opted for the cash refund rather than replacement forks on my Tricross Sport Triple - partly to take advantage of the newer models with Disc brakes

Now I need to decide on a replacement, what does the panel advise?

I like the Boardman: http://tinyurl.com/3ckexs6

but, on the basis that i love my Whyte 901 MtB so much i'm tempted by the new Whyte Cross bikes

Probably the Charing Cross.

Views?

Others I should look at??

I have a whyte 901 for real off road stuff, a Van Nicolas Yukon for club runs and sportives and use(d) the Tricross for rides involving tow-path or sustrans trails or really yukky winter road rides

  • I have the Boardman and I like it. The disc brakes are nice although I do seem to spend a lot of time tuning them. Only real gripe with it is that the cable runs seem to be set up for Europeans rather than Brits.

The Whyte looks nice. Slightly less gear range than the Boardman (not enough to worry about) but quite a gentle fork angle. I would say it would probably handle quite differently to your tri-cross.

In answer to your question, the normal other options people like the look of are the Genesis 11 speed hub geared thing (Day 11) and there are a couple of Marins that look interesting.

I was looking at the Charing cross the other day. It's a nice looking bike and would get my money over the boardman even though the boardman is probably better value.

Another one to look at might be the Genesis Croix de Fer. I've had mine for just over a year and it's been great.

Anyway, I was under the impression you had to buy another Specialized bike if you're going for the refund rather than the forks, or is it just at the descression of the bike shop?
I love horses, best of all the animals. I love horses, they're my friends.

My LBS has just told me to take the bike in for a refund of what i paid, from somewhere else i heard that if buying another specialized there was a 10% discount off another specialized. But i want a cross bike with discs
