Shin-friendly pedals

My 5 year old is regularly shredding his shins on the hard plastic pedals of his bike. He "crashes" on a regular basis as he's only just got riding - usually on uncontrolled stops.

Anyone come across friendly pedals, rubber perhaps? He's not quite ready for SPDs yet.

(shin pads and/or trousers in use at the moment)

Eeyup. Warning, most kid's bikes are only 1/2", so a lot of the pedals to fit are shite.

I found these. (google search on brand, then rang local shops)

Metal with curved edges, and rubber for grip. She does manage to get her shins occasionally, but never complains.

Nup. That's me sayin' yep.

I can't remember the brand. But, generic chinese so prob under a number of different brands, some of which would be different in the UK than Australia. I did find quite a few more rubber-encased metal ones available, but not for 1/2. You may have more success.
