Hi guys,

Currently been jumping between mtb and road, and am thinking road is gonna suit me more due to 90% of my riding is on the road.

I got around £500-£600 budget for a first time road bike what would you suggest?

aot of people say this is the time to buy a bike as the end of season bikes should be going cheap however I havent found any.

The Specialized Allez is a always a safe bet for this price range and has been for some time.

Give it another 6 weeks or so for the proper discounts.

I got mine in '05 and ridden an awful lot of miles on it, even through 200km days in the Pyrenees. It was more than up to the job and still is.

The other option, the one I didn't go for, is the Giant Defy.

If you leave it 6 weeks then much of the stock will be gone in the popular sizes! Have a look, if you think a bike is worth its price to you then buy it if it fits!
  • You can pick up a defy 2 for £520 from TriUK, normally £720.

I should know, just bought one myself lol
  • If you are 6ft or over save yourself some money and buy my Trek 1200 for £300!

Seriously theres not much between the big brands entry level bike at this price something like the Allez ,Trek 1.1/1.2 or Defy are all good, its as much down to which fits you best.

If you want new I`d also suggest a close look at the Boardmansin Halfords too.
    2006 Giant XTC
    2010 Giant Defy Advanced
    2016 Boardman Pro 29er
    2016 Pinnacle Lithium 4
    2017 Canondale Supersix Evo
  • Go to Edinburgh bike coop for a Cannondale Synapse Sora Reduced from £700 to 500.
If suffer we must, let's suffer on the heights. (Victor Hugo).
  • save a little bit more and get a CAAD8

I spent ages thinging (about 2 years ago)

At the time I wanst 100% sure (how could you be) but I can honestly say If I had my time all over I would buy the same bike - really priving to be the right choice for me.

Really decent frame, and adequate kit which for your price range is what Id go for.
